Banned Book Résumés: An Important New Resource

Unite Against Book Bans—the national initiative launched by ALA in 2022 to help readers, teachers, librarians, booksellers, students, publishers, community advocates, and others in the fight against censorship—has launched a free collection of book résumés to support everyone in their efforts to keep frequently challenged books on shelves.

As easy-to-print PDFs, the book résumés feature information provided by publishers, librarians, authors, illustrators, and School Library Journal, including:

  • a synopsis of the book
  • reviews and awards the book has received
  • more from the book creators themselves
  • links to additional resources, relevant media, and more

These hundred books represent just some of the most frequently banned adult, young adult, and children’s books. Amongst the many featured is the book résumé for Yaqui Delgado Wants To Kick Your Ass by the current National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature, Meg Medina. (The National Ambassador program is managed by CBC’s Every Child a Reader, in partnership with the Library of Congress.)

We would like to thank all those who gave their time to make this project possible.

Find the directory to all the book résumés, with more to be added on a regular basis. And you can also download a spreadsheet with all the book résumés links.

The Children’s Book Council join with all who are in the fight against book bans, and our work and resources can be seen here.
