The League of Beastly Dreadfuls
After Anastasia McCrumpet’s parents die in a tragic vacuum-cleaner accident, she’s rescued by two long lost great-aunties and taken to their delightful and, er, “authentic” Victorian home, St. Agony’s Asylum for the Criminally Insane. There, Anastasia’s loving aunties give her everything a little girl could want: a cozy bedroom (with a creepy child-shaped hollow in its rotting cot), sumptuous meals (Mmmmm! Mystery Lumps!), and character-building responsibilities (catching leeches! polishing chamber pots!). But Anastasia can’t help notice that something strange is going on at the asylum. What’s this mysterious C.R.U.D. organization she hears whispers of? Is it odd that her Aunties wear the same ring as the evil school secretary? And why, for goodness sake, do they collect pictures of missing children? Anastasia soon begins to suspect that her aunties are not who they say they are. So when she meets Ollie and Quentin, two magical brothers hidden in the depths of the asylum, the three join forces as the League of Beastly Dreadfuls to plot their great escape.
