National Squirrel Appreciation Day

The new CBC Holidays Series will explore stories that relate to specific holidays so that kid, and adult, readers can celebrate in the best way we know how… with a good book!

On Friday, January 21st, we celebrate National Squirrel Appreciation Day, where we acknowledge the curious and furry critters of the rodent family that commonly live in our nearby trees. Squirrels may seem like pests, but they help the environment by planting trees (albeit accidentally) and can provide endless amusement to those of us who love watching them play and scavenge for food in feeders. They have become a staple for our local parks and their preservation. So let’s go to our local park, pick up a book, and appreciate our neighboring squirrels!
