Growing Good Kids Book Awards – Call for Nominations
The 2018 Growing Good Kids Book Awards Committee is currently accepting nominations for books published in 2017.
Award winners are selected from children’s picture books that are plant, gardening and ecology-themed. To be considered, titles should be works of fiction or have a strong narrative element. The criteria for selection encompass two primary areas:
- The power of the story to:
- engage children
- effectively promote an understanding of and appreciation for gardening/plants and the environment
- convey a positive message effectively
- The power of the illustration/design to:
- appeal to children
- represent the story effectively
- promote an understanding of and appreciation for gardening/plants and the environment
To nominate a title for the 2018 Growing Good Kids Book Award, send a copy of the book and a completed nomination form (that can be accessed here) to the following address:

The Junior Master Gardener Program & American Horticultural Society (AHS) have partnered to develop the “Growing Good Kids – Excellence in Children’s Literature” Book Awards Program. The mission of the book awards program is to recognize those children’s books that are especially effective at promoting an understanding of, and appreciation for plants, gardening & the environment.
The Growing Good Kids Book Awards began in 2005 by recognizing those titles published before a unique category of “CLASSICS.” Every year since, award winners have been selected and recognized at the annual AHS National Children & Youth Garden Symposium.
