Eloise at The Plaza Selects Every Child a Reader As Its Literacy Event

JOINT PROGRAMMING TO KICK-OFF WITH CHILDREN’S BOOK WEEK (May 13-19, 2013) APPEARANCES AT ELOISE AT THE PLAZA BY FIONA ROBINSON, GRACE MACCARONE, AND BETSY & TED LEWIN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, NY — April 23, 2013 – Eloise at The Plaza, the one-of-a-kind shop, reading room, and event venue of Kay Thompson’s iconic children’s book heroine Eloise, famously illustrated by Hilary Knight —located in the historic New York City hotel—has selected Every Child a Reader (ECAR) as its official literacy event partner. Beginning with appearances by Fiona Robinson, Grace Maccarone, and Betsy & Ted Lewin at Eloise at the Plaza during the 94th annual celebration of Children’s Book Week (May 13-19, 2013), the two organizations will host a variety of literacy programs for children throughout the year, including Summer Reading, Back to School, Story Time with Santa, and A Giving Tree for the Holidays. A portion of the proceeds from these events will be donated to Every Child a Reader, a 501(c)(3) literacy organization dedicated to instilling a life-long love of reading in children.

For almost 60 years, young readers have reveled in the antics of precocious 6-year-old Eloise as she “skidders” about the famed hotel. Eloise at The Plaza is proud to partner with Every Child a Reader (ECAR), to bring children’s book events to her generations of fans. The partnership will kick off with events during Children’s Book Week (CBW), the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country, administered annually by ECAR. Fiona Robinson, Grace Maccarone, and Betsy & Ted Lewin, will appear in the Library at Eloise at the Plaza for readings and signings from 4-5pm on Tuesday, May 14th, Wednesday, May 15th, and Thursday, May 16th, respectively. Due to limited capacity, reservations are strongly suggested (by phone: 212-546-5460, or email: Eloise@theplazany.com).

The Eloise Shop will also introduce its “Rawther Official Eloise Reader Club Card” during Children’s Book Week. For every book purchased in the store, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to ECAR. After 10 purchases by a parent or caregiver, children receive a $10.00 gift card to The Eloise Shop. Reader Club Cards will be included in all birthday party and Rawther Fancy Tea gift bags given to customers in-store. Eloise at The Plaza will promote the Reader Card through dedicated e-blasts, social media, and via www.theplazany.com.

“Eloise and ECAR are a natural fit for one another. The stories of Eloise are multigenerational and passed down from mother to daughter. Eloise came to life in the pages of Kay Thompson’s classic books and is now realized this century through our experiential offerings at Eloise at The Plaza. I first read Eloise as a young child in New York City and couldn’t wait to share her with my daughters.” — Kristin Franzese, Executive Vice President, Retail
