Surprise guest Jon Scieszka lets it fly!

Over 50 tributes in their first 5 years in the children’s book publishing industry went head-to-head in seven life-threateningly difficult Minute-to-Win-It-style challenges, all conceptualized and created by the fabulous ECC board. In the fatal last round, finalists Jessie Borkan of District Scholastic, Dana Bergman of District Penguin YRG, Paula Sadler of District Penguin YRG, and Gaia Merriman of District Scholastic, each took on President Snow himself.

Though only one special tribute, Penguin YRG’s Dana Bergman, officially came out of the competition alive, the rest fought bravely and had lots of fun! The Tributes frequently stopped to refuel with to-die-for dishes like Prim’s basil and goat cheese, Gale and Katniss’ reaping day breakfast, and Peeta’s beautiful frosted cookies.

A surprise celebrity guest (Jon Scieszka!) even stopped by to sling a suction-cup arrow at a target in the “Hunt Or Be Hunted” challenge! Images of the event are on the Early Career Committee’s Facebook page.
