International Literacy Association

Since 1956, the International Literacy Association (ILA) has been a nonprofit, global network of individuals and institutions committed to worldwide literacy. The CBC has worked with ILA since the early 1970s. For nearly 40 years, the CBC and ILA have co-sponsored the Children’s Choices project, an annual list of books chosen by over 12,000 children across the country. Since 1975, Children’s Choices has been a trusted source of book recommendations used by teachers, librarians, parents—and children themselves. Submissions to the Children’s Choices program may become finalists in the Children’s Choice Book Awards, the only national child-chosen book awards program in the country.
