8th Annual Children’s Literature Conference & Horace Mann Upstander Awards

The 8th Annual Children’s Literature Conference & Horace Mann Upstander Awards, will be held on May 16, 2015, from 9 am to 12:30 pm, at the Wildwood School (Elementary Campus) in Los Angeles, California. The event includes an award ceremony honoring outstanding authors and individuals who promote social justice through their work, and breakout sessions from community leaders.

An Upstander is defined as “a person who recognizes injustice and acts in a way to right the wrong.” The award was established by the Antioch University Los Angeles to provide children with worthy role models.

This year’s Horace Mann Upstander Awards will be presented to:

  • Justin Roberts, author of The Smallest Girl in the Smallest Grade; Horace Mann Upstander Book Award
  • Michelle Frank (Myering), executive director, PEN Center USA; Community Upstander Achievement
  • Eve Bunting, esteemed author of over 250 titles for children; Lifetime Upstander
