Laugh & Learn: Humor in Children’s Graphic Novels
What do you call a graphic novel with no humor? An adult graphic novel! But seriously: humor is key to many treasured children’s comics. In this panel, discover new funny books that will have kids gleefully giggling and loving to read. Panelists include: Natalie Riess (Space Battle Lunchtime), Jeffrey Brown (Lucy & Andy Neanderthal), Kristen Gudsnuk (Making Friends) and Sean Rubin (Bolivar). Moderated by Ben Perry (Youth Services Librarian, Brooklyn Public Library).
10/4/2018, 2:30 PM – 3:15 PM
NYPL Main Branch – Celeste Auditorium
476 5th Ave, New York, NY 10018

LGBTQ+ in Children’s Graphic Novels
Today’s most dynamic creators are in kid’s comics and they’re portraying queer characters in fresh ways. Join Ethan M. Aldridge (Estranged), Natalie Riess (Space Battle Lunchtime), Mariko Tamaki and Brooklyn Allen (Lumberjanes: The Moon is Up) in their discussion of LGBTQ Graphic Novels for kids; from developing authentic stories, to comics as a safe space for all identities. Moderated by Gina Gagliano (Director, Random House Graphic).
