New York, NY – March 27, 2013 — Qlovi, the classroom eBook and literacy software company, partners with the Children’s Book Council, the non-profit trade association for children’s book publishers, to provide free readings for K-8 classrooms — with a special book giveaway challenge!  The Qlovi + Authors (Q+A) Virtual Reading Series streams live readings by authors and illustrators to classrooms across the country. Students have the chance to submit questions and get answers directly during the event. Starting today, teachers and librarians can sign up at http://www.qlovi.com/qa for up to eight free virtual readings in three time zones. On Friday, April 4, classrooms will tune in starting at 9am and ending at 5pm (EDT) using the same URL.

The Children’s Book Council is pleased to offer the two schools that have signed up for a reading who then cast the most votes now through May 12 in the Children’s Choice Book Awards — the only national book awards program where the winning titles are chosen by kids and teens — using the group ballot at ccbookwards.com, a complete set of this year’s 30 nominated titles. “We couldn’t be more excited to help bring these fantastic titles, representing kids’ top reading picks of the year, to two lucky schools,” says the CBC.

The Qlovi + Authors (Q+A) Virtual Reading Series launched in December 2013, reaching over 60,000 students in one day. For participating authors and illustrators, it’s a chance to reach thousands of readers in a new way. “I’m very excited about the interactivity of these hangouts,” says participating author Shirin Yim Bridges, who is both an author and publisher at Goosebottom Books. “To be able to hear from kids around the country and to answer their questions—that’s so appealing to someone like me, who has dedicated her small press to eliciting kids’ curiosity.”

“We aim to make the readings fun and accessible for teachers and librarians all over the country” says Qlovi founder and CEO Harlyn Pacheco. “The goal is to give all classrooms a unique opportunity to hear from, and interact with, beloved authors and illustrators, even in those schools where inviting readers in person—for a variety of reasons—might not be possible. With these readings, we have the chance to bring two connected industries together: book publishing, and K-12 education. It’s gratifying to see authors and illustrators, teachers and librarians, gathering around this common goals: to get kids excited about reading.”
