National Ambassador Kate DiCamillo Wins Her Second Newbery Medal
The award was announced on Monday January 27th by the American Library Association. DiCamillo, a popular and widely acclaimed author, won the Newbery medal for the first time eight years ago for The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup, and a Spool of Thread. Her first book, Because of Winn-Dixie, was a Newbery Honor book in 2001.
“When they called this morning about the Newbery, I don’t think I said anything that made any sense,” DiCamillo told The Associated Press. “I mostly just wept.”
