by Michael O. Tunnell

Following World War II, U.S. Air Force pilot Gail Halvorsen is running supplies into blockaded West Berlin when he meets some of the children who are aided by his drops. He begins dropping gum and candy tied to small parachutes to the children from his plane when he makes his drops. He became known as Uncle Wiggly Wings to these kids who knew the treats were coming when Lt. Col. Halvorsen wiggled the wings of his plane to let children know he was there.
