Submissions Now Open for the 2020 SEE-IT™ Award from EBSCO Information Services and the Children’s Book Council

Annual Award Recognizes Author and Illustrator Excellence in Youth Graphic Novels

IPSWICH, Mass. — November 06, 2019 — Submissions are now being accepted for the fourth annual SEE-IT™ Award. SEE-IT stands for Stories Engagingly Expressed-Illustratively Told. The SEE-IT Award is an annual book award given in partnership by EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) and the Graphic Novel Committee of the Children’s Book Council (CBC) to honor the outstanding achievements of authors and illustrators in youth graphic novels. Publishers are encouraged to submit titles for award consideration by February 15, 2020.

In an effort to identify these works and promote them among the library community, EBSCO eBooks™, Core Collections™ and NoveList®, in collaboration with the CBC Graphic Novel Committee, have partnered to create the SEE-IT Award to celebrate youth graphic novels published in the last year that display the highest literary quality as judged by a select panel of librarian graphic novel specialists. Finalists of the award will be announced in April 2020, and the winner will be announced in June 2020.

EBSCO Information Services Senior Director of Product Management, eBooks & E-Commerce, John Brennan, says the SEE-IT Award’s intent is to increase the visibility of youth graphic novels and recognize the creators for their literary merit within this growing medium. “Together with the Children’s Book Council, we are able to provide recognition to the authors and illustrators whose creative excellence has provided positive impact on young readers of all reading levels. The SEE-IT Award allows us the opportunity to celebrate the growth of a truly unique literary genre and art form.”

The SEE-IT Award juror panel selected Speak, written by Laurie Halse Anderson and illustrated by Emily Carroll, as the 2019 SEE-IT Award recipient. Published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux Books for Young Readers, Speak was selected for its use of creative storytelling, overall artistic and literary appeal, and its ability to delicately depict difficult but relevant subject matter. While members and employees of EBSCO and the CBC Graphic Novel Committee come together annually in collaboration to plan, organize and promote the SEE-IT Award, they are not involved in the title selection.

Publishers interested in submitting nominees for the SEE-IT Award can do so by visiting the SEE-IT website prior to the February 15, 2020 deadline.
