CBC Diversity Presents “Writing and Editing Authentic Voices”

Authors Matt de la Peña and Patricia McCormick were joined by industry insiders Kate Sullivan (senior editor at Delacorte) and Marietta Zacker (Gallt & Zacker Literary Agency). The discussion was moderated by Ashley Woodfolk, marketing manager at Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group.

Whether writing from within or outside of their own experience, the panelists strive to create nuanced representations of diverse characters and cultures — guided by integrity and sensitivity.

Readers and gatekeepers ought to look more deeply into what diversity means, and to recognize that no one cultural experience reflects all: ‘There’s so much diversity within diversity.’ (Publishers Weekly)
