Authors & Illustrators: Join Kate DiCamillo and Volunteer for ‘Indies First’ Storytime Day for Children’s Book Week!
On Small Business Saturday last year, Sherman Alexie began the Indies First movement by encouraging fellow authors to volunteer as booksellers-for-a-day in support of their local independent bookstores. With the administrative support of the ABA, the effort galvanized over 1,000 author participants.
Inspired by the success of this campaign, and with Alexie’s blessing, National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature and two-time Newbery Medal winner Kate DiCamillo is spearheading the inaugural Indies First Storytime Day on May 17, 2014 in celebration of the 95th annual Children’s Book Week. Authors and illustrators are invited to participate by reading a story (one they didn’t write) out loud at their local independent bookstore. Indies First Storytime Day is proudly supported by both the ABA and CBC.
Authors and illustrators: please visit the ABA website, which has a wonderful letter from Kate encouraging you to participate, and register to volunteer! ▸▸
