U.S.A. Gold® Pencils Announces Student Poetry Contest

April 11, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Students and teachers can win cash or gift cards and school products

Irvine, CA — Feb. 25, 2016 — In celebration of National Poetry Month in April, U.S.A. Gold launched a student poetry contest open to students in grades 1–6. The contest, created together with Scholastic, asks students to create original poems to answer the question, “What makes the USA special to you?” Contest details, forms, and official rules can be found at www.scholastic.com/usagold.

“As one of the largest manufacturers of #2 pencils in the USA, we at U.S.A. Gold are excited to help celebrate National Poetry month and foster the love of poetry with this new contest,” said Shantelle Taylor, Senior Manager Global Brand Marketing, Mega Brands America. “With the help of Scholastic, we hope to assist teachers across America in bringing poetry into their classrooms this April and all year long.”

The contest theme of “What makes the USA special to you?” inspires kids to learn more about our country and express their thoughts through hand- written poetry.

“U.S.A. Gold is pleased to help encourage kids to think and write about what makes our country great,” added Taylor. “We are proud that our pencil factory has operated in Lewisburg, Tennessee for the last 55 years.”

Three grand prizes of $500 each, plus $50 in U.S.A. Gold pencils, will be awarded to students writing the best poems in grades 1–2, 3–4 and 5–6. Teachers of the winning students will also receive a $150 gift card, plus $100 worth of products including U.S.A. Gold pencils, an electric pencil sharpener and erasers.

Teachers must submit entries on behalf of their students using the entry form and poem forms, which can be found at the website. The contest site also offers teachers grade-appropriate poetry activities, and later in the year will introduce eight additional lesson plans incorporating fun, writing topics and exercises.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Contest is open to students in grades 1–6 who are enrolled in public schools, accredited private schools, or home schools in compliance with the laws of the students’ primary state of residence, and who are legal residents of one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia. All entries must be postmarked by April 29, 2016, and winners will be announced in June.  No purchase necessary and void where prohibited.
