The CBC Stands in Support of N.C. Bookstores

April 14, 2016

The Children's Book Council has joined the American Booksellers Association and other literacy organizations in supporting North Carolina bookstores and readers in the fallout from the state's recent anti-LGBTQ legislature, House Bill 2.

In a joint statement signed by the ABA, the CBC, the Association of American Publishers, the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Southern Independent Booksellers Alliance, the organizations “urge all authors and illustrators as well as their publishers not to boycott North Carolina bookstores.”

The punishment for passing HB2 should fall on the governor and state legislators, not on booksellers who play a vital role in promoting tolerance and diversity. (Publishers Weekly)
