National Book Awards to Feature Long List
January 18, 2013
The organizers behind the National Book Awards have decided to feature a longlist. From now on, those who participate in the judging panel will recognize and select ten works by kidlit writers for the Young People's Literature longlist. From that pool of ten, five finalists will be chosen. In 2012, William Alexander's fantasy novel, Goblin Secrets, won the National Book Award.
"In 2013, the longlist will be announced on September 12, the finalists on October 15, and the winners on November 20...In addition, judges comprising the four panels—fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and young people’s literature—will no longer be limited to writers, but now may also include other experts in the field including literary critics, librarians, and booksellers. The number of judges in each panel will remain."
