'The Hobbit' Film Adaptation Rakes in $100 Million in Five Days

Movie patrons showed up in abundance for Peter Jackson's first installment of The Hobbit trilogy. An Unexpected Journey brought in $100 million at the box office in five days.

The worldwide total now stands at $270 million. This film project had a budget of $400 million; a good portion was spent on promotional efforts and marketing ventures.
