PENGUIN YOUNG READERS GROUP ANNOUNCES ADULT MAD LIBS APP

December 13, 2012 – New York, NY- The Adult Mad Libs mobile app was released today by Penguin Young Readers Group. The free app includes six titles, each including 21 stories: Log on to Mad Libs, Party Girl Mad Libs, Countdown to Midnight Mad Libs, My Bleeping Family Mad Libs, Pigskin Party Mad Libs and Baby On Board Mad Libs. Each title will be available for $1.99 for a limited time. The app also includes a bonus title, Business or Pleasure, which includes five free stories.

Adult Mad Libs is a return to the roots of Mad Libs, which began as a cocktail party icebreaker in the 1950s. The Mad Libs series has since been embraced by millions of children across the globe as a fun, educational word game. The series has sold over 120 million copies to date and over 335 million people have played Mad Libs. Adult MadLibs will be available both in the app and in printed books nationwide.

The Adult Mad Libs app follows the recent success of the original Mad Libs app, which has had over 4 million downloads to date. In late November, Penguin released a robust update and the Mad Libs app skyrocketed to #3 in the entertainment section of the App Store.  Available for free for the iPhone and iPad, the Adult Mad Libs app will feature:

  • Six titles, each including 21 stories.
  • Frequent updates with new Adult Mad Libs stories.
  • Retina display graphics.
  • The ability to use the camera to add your photo or image to a story.
  • Achievements tracker using Gamecenter.
  • Siri voice activation.
  • Social media sharing on Facebook, Twitter, and email integration.
  • Word hints on the accelerometer.

When Leonard Stern and Roger Price first created Mad Libs, it was an inventive and unpredictable game they played with their friends at cocktail parties. In 1958, the legendary talk show host Steve Allen used Mad Libs to hilariously introduce guests. Three days later, stores across the country had completely sold out of Mad Libs, and a star was born.
