First Edition Copy of Anne of Green Gables Auctioned Off for $10,000

One bibliophile purchased a first edition copy of Anne of Green Gables for $10,000. At this point in time, L. M. Montgomery's beloved book is in the public domain. Internet users can access a free digital version of the novel at Project Gutenberg.
"The 1908 edition of the L. M. Montgomery classic was on the block at Doyle of New York. The estimated sale price was $8,000 to $12,000. A representative of Doyle told CBC News before the auction he felt the estimate was conservative, but the sale price fell right in the middle."
