Von Drasek to Head the Kerlan Collection; Bruce & Brown Succeed Her
After 15 years as children’s librarian and, most recently, also director of the Center for Children’s Literature at the Bank Street College of Education, Lisa Von Drasek has accepted the position of curator of the Children’s Literature Research Collections, which includes the Kerlan Collection, at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, effective November 1. Von Drasek’s position at Bank Street has been divided in two.
Allie Bruce will be the new full-time interim children’s librarian at Bank Street’s School for Children, effective immediately. Allie received her MLS from New York’s Pratt Institute, served as intern at the Bank Street Library and was selected as a 2012 William Morris scholar at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Dallas, Tex. She started her career at Politics & Prose in Washington, D.C.
Jennifer M. Brown, who will remain the children’s editor at Shelf Awareness, has assumed Von Drasek’s responsibilities part-time as interim director of the Center for Children’s Literature. The Center includes the Children’s Book Committee (where Brown has served as a member for three years and part of the executive committee for two years); BookFest @ Bank Street, an annual conference celebrating children’s literature with authors, artists, librarians and teachers; the Irma Simonton Black Award and the Cook Prize; and the Writers’ Lab. Bruce and Brown will report to Kristin Freda, Director of Library Services at Bank Street College.
