Nina LaCour to Adapt Her YA Novel Hold Still into a Film

September 24, 2012

YA novelist Nina LaCour has been busy adapting her own book, Hold Still, into a film. After running a successful Kickstarter campaign to secure funding, LaCour and her partners, director Amanda Krampf and cinematographer Kristyn Stroble, went to work on the project. The film-making trio have been using their own homes as well as the houses of other friends and family members to shoot the movie. They cast Ana Szaky as the lead heroine, Caitlin.

"There are around 115 scenes in the movie version of Hold Still. Caitlin is in 113 of them. One would imagine that we'd have held auditions for this role. But the truth is that Amanda and Kristyn and I had all fallen for Ana three years ago when we made the book trailer for Hold Still and we had trouble imagining anyone else in the role, even though Ana had never acted before and wasn't pursuing it. I sent her pages from the screenplay and we called her via Skype. We had a terrible connection. We could barely see or hear her. We offered her the part anyway. It was impulsive and risky and could have been stupid, but it ended up being the best decision we made."
