Children's Poets Band Together for the Dare to Dream...Change the World Poetry Collection

August 28, 2012

Editor Jill Corcoran assembled a group of children's poets to contribute poems for a collection titled, Dare to Dream...Change the World. The writers paired off into teams of two to write pieces that honored people who "dared to dream" such as Anne Frank, Michelle Kwan and Temple Grandin. Some of the writers who took part in this project include poet Kelly Fineman, Crank series author Ellen Hopkins and Minn and Jake's Almost Terrible Summer author Janet S. Wong. Artist J. Beth Jepson provided the illustrations.

"Each pair of poems includes one that is biographical and one that's inspirational, and each two-page pairing includes a short prose bio about the person or people discussed. Subjects include well-known historical figures such as Anne Frank and Jonas Salk as well as contemporary figures including Father Gregory Boyle, a priest who works with gang members in L.A., Ashley Bryan (beloved author/illustrator), Temple Grandin, and the three guys who invented/founded YouTube: Chad Hurley, Steve Chen & Jawed Karim."
