Kidlit Authors Land on Forbes 'The World's Top-Earning Authors' List

Being a beloved author can bring both immense satisfaction and great wealth. The past three winners in the 'Author of the Year' category from the Children's Choice Book Awards made Forbes' annual list.

2010 winner James Patterson topped the list at $94 million. Jeff Kinney, crowned 'Author of the Year' earlier this year, raked in $25 million thanks to his Wimpy Kid series. Mythology guru/2011 winner Rick Riordan made it with $13 million.

Don't count out the ladies! Hunger Games author Suzanne Collins came in at #9 with $20 million in earnings. J.K. Rowling's first adult book, A Casual Vacancy, will not be available until September but she still collected an $8 million advance. In total, the creator behind the Harry Potter series earned $17 million. Twilight Saga author Stephenie Meyer didn't trail far behind; she comes in at $14 million.
