More and More Readers Express a Desire for Books Featuring Diversity

More and more communities are expressing a desire to see stories featuring diverse characters. This subject matter hit the capital city of Wisconsin when eight-year-old Jack Reiser asked his mother an innocent question, "Why do I not see brown superheroes?"
"The issue is particularly ripe in increasingly diverse Madison, with concerns about minority student achievement, growing Hispanic and multiracial populations, and a recent boomlet of white families adopting children from Ethiopia...Earlier this year, the Children’s Book Council, a publishers trade association, launched a diversity committee, with the goal of raising awareness about and increasing diversity within the children’s book world, Sellers added."
