Andrea Davis Pinkney on Starting Out in Publishing
July 23, 2012
The Scholastic Vice President and Executive Editor shares her story on how she came to work in children's book publishing.
Pinkney got her start in magazine publishing at Mechanix Illustrated and Essence. While at Essence, she realized that book publishers at the time did not release many African American children's books. Seeking to fill that gap, she landed her first editorial position at Simon & Schuster Children’s Division under Willa Perlman. Since then, Pinkney has been named one of the "25 Most Influential People in our Children's Lives" by Children's Health Magazine.
