Katherine Paterson Visit Winner Announced!

August 10, 2010

We received an abundance of fantastic entries from schools and libraries across the country, but were especially impressed with the creativity and excitement demonstrated by Sebago Elementary's (Sebago, ME) submission.

The school will prepare for the National Ambassador's visit by asking parents, guardians, and teachers to write letters to the children about their personal histories with literacy (describing a book they loved as a child, how reading is important to them, etc.) These letters will be kept secret until the day of the event. During Ms. Paterson's visit, the students will create and decorate scrapbooks in which they can document their own experiences with reading to eventually pass on to their own children. They will be given the letters from their parents, guardians, and teachers to add to their scrapbooks. We love this project for the life-long love of literacy and intergenerational sharing of reading it promotes. Congratulations!
