Six Flags New England Hosts the First-Ever “Read a Book Day”

What: On Saturday, August 27, Six Flags New England and Candlewick Press are celebrating literacy with their first-ever “Read a Book Day.” The Coaster Capital of New England and Candlewick Press will host a variety of activities to encourage reading for kids of all ages. Guests will be able to enjoy book readings, activities, games, trivia, performances of StoryTale Fumbled Fables, and photo opportunities with the iconic Waldo of Where’s Waldo? fame.

Guests are invited to donate at least three new or gently used books at the park’s Main Gate in exchange for $20.16 off the Main Gate Admission price . All donated books will go directly to the Boys and Girls Club of Springfield, Massachusetts. Books will be collected throughout the day, and Six Flags New England’s goal is to donate well over 500 books. Six Flags New England recommends that donated books be kid-friendly and tailored to children age 15 and younger. Picture books, chapter books, character books, and educational books are highly encouraged.

Six Flags New England is proud to work with Candlewick Press to celebrate “Read a Book Day.” Candlewick Press views as central to its mission the idea that all children in America, regardless of their personal circumstances, have access to books. To that end, Candlewick Press has long supported such literacy and charitable organizations as Reading Is Fundamental, First Book, and the Boys and Girls Club of America.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Six Flags New England to promote literacy and to cultivate a love of reading in the community. It’s an unfortunate reality that many young people don’t have access to high-quality children’s literature, and we hope to change that with the books we collect on August 27. We also hope this celebration of reading will create lifelong readers by showing children the power of great stories,” said Ally Russell, consumer outreach specialist at Candlewick Press.
