December 6, 2016

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mary McScary to Launch in September 2017

New York, NY—December 6, 2016Scholastic (NASDAQ: SCHL), the global children’s publishing, education, and media company, has acquired world rights to a picture book written by R.L. Stine, the worldwide bestselling author of Goosebumps, and illustrated by Marc Brown, creator of the bestselling Arthur Adventure book series and creative producer of the #1 children’s PBS television series “Arthur.” Mary McScary, Stine and Brown’s second picture book collaboration, will be published in September 2017 by Orchard Books.

“R.L. Stine and Marc Brown are two of the most recognizable creators in children publishing who are not only talented, they are constantly reinventing themselves and have a great time along the way,” said Liza Baker, VP & Executive Editorial Director.  “With hilarious comedic timing, and a fierce and fabulous character that kids will love, Mary McScary is poised to make her mark!”

“This is my second picture book collaboration with Marc Brown and I’ve enjoyed reaching this younger readership,” said R.L. Stine.  “I’m having so much fun working with Marc on this funny—and slightly naughty—new character, Mary McScary.”

“Long ago I decided only to work with people who are funny, creative, just a bit wicked, and very clever,” said Marc Brown. “Bob Stine is all of those things.  Bringing Mary McScary to life seemed to dictate a new style of art, something bold, energetic and playful. This collage technique felt like the right spirited visual look for this mischievous character.”
