I don't think so. This is a beautifully illustrated and informative encyclopedia for all those wannabe paleontologists out there.

THE DINOSAURS OF WATERHOUSE HAWKINS by Barbara Kerley, illustrated by Brian Selznick. 2001. 48 pp. 0-439-11494-2 (Scholastic Press) $16.95. The true story of Victorian artist Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins, who built life-sized models of dinosaurs in hopes of educating the world about these awe-inspiring ancients and what they were like. Brian Selznick's incredible illustrations pull you into this fascinating story.

G IS FOR GOOGOL: A Math Alphabet Book by David M. Schwartz, illustrated by Marissa Moss. 1998. 57 pp. 1-883672-58-9 (Tricycle Press) $15.95. While not a replacement for a math text, this lighthearted, quirky approach to math concepts is guaranteed to charm even the most math-phobic.

WILDFLOWERS AROUND THE YEAR written and illustrated with photographs by Hope Ryden. 2001. 96 pp. 0-395-85814-3 (Clarion Books) $17.00. Hope Ryden tells the stories of thirty-seven common wildflowers in individual, one-page biographies of plants that she "collected" with her photographic lens over the course of a year-long treasure hunt. Bloom times for each flower are listed as are likely habitats and pollinators. A beautiful incentive to start one's own wildflower search and record.

YOUNG NATURALIST POP-UP HANDBOOK: Butterflies by Robert Sabuda and Matthew Reinhart. 2001. 14 pp. 0-7868-0558-7 (Hyperion Books for Children) $19.99. Text and detailed pop-up illustrations offer information about the characteristics, life, and behavior of butterflies. A must for all Sabuda fans and for butterfly enthusiasts.
