Our Partners
The CBC values partnerships and cooperative programming with other national organizations with whom we share common interests.
American Booksellers Association (ABA)
Association of Booksellers for Children (ABC)
The CBC has collaborated with the American Booksellers Association for over two decades. In 2002, the committee expanded to include representation of the Association of Booksellers for Children. The newly tripartite committee was named the Children's Booksellers and Publishers Committee. Its primary effort is to develop programming of interest to both groups at the annual BookExpo America.
American Library Association (ALA)
From its earliest days, the CBC has had a good working relationship with librarians who shared a belief that trade books must be a part of children's lives. This relationship continues today through the work of the American Library Association-CBC Joint Committee. The committee sponsors programs for librarians at the semiannual ALA conventions, discusses responses to issues of interest to both groups, and helps develop reading lists for young people.
Building a Home Library
Librarians, educators, and others who work with families are encouraged to download and print these brochures and share them with parents, grandparents, and caregivers in their community.
Books to Grow On
Classic books for children ages 0-3.
Center for the Book in the Library of Congress
The CBC and the Center for the Book are the co-creators of the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature program. The position of National Ambassador for Young People's Literature was created to raise national awareness of the importance of young people's literature as it relates to lifelong literacy, education, and the development and betterment of the lives of young people.
First Book
First Book is a nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. Among other projects, the CBC is pleased to work with First Book and Build-A-Bear Workshop® on Bearemy's Book Club® to encourage children of all ages to read. The Book Club gives kids a voice in reviewing and rating books for other kids.
International Reading Association (IRA)
The CBC has worked with the International Reading Association since the early 1970s. For nearly 30 years, the CBC and IRA have co-sponsored the much-admired Children's Choices project. Over 12,000 school children—five geographically diverse teams—vote on their favorite books of the past year. The resulting list of approximately 100 books, beyond its obvious value to teachers, helps parents and booksellers find new titles that get kids excited about reading.
National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS)
Together with the NCSS, CBC produces the annual Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People reading list.
National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
CBC and NSTA each year develop the Outstanding Science Trade Books for Students K-12 reading list.
