(October 13, 2011, New York, NY)—Random House Children’s Books (RandomHouse.com/kids) announced today that David A. Carter’s newest pop-up book, written with Noelle Carter, has been released with a companion app, Bot Garage for iPad®, iPhone®, and iPod touch®. A trailer for the app can be viewed at RHKidsApps.com. Developed with Smashing Ideas, the app retails for $1.99, but is available now at the special introductory price of $0.99.

This is the company’s first simultaneous release of a frontlist print book with a digital app, as well as the first entertainment app produced by any division of Random House, Inc.

LOTS OF BOTS! A Counting Pop-Up Book(Robin Corey Books / On sale October 11, 2011 / $14.99 / Ages 4-8) is the first title in a new pop-up series by David A. Carter. Kids will learn counting from 1 to 10, and the more advanced can count all 55 bots in this playfully interactive book. From tactile pull-tabs to features that spin, turn, and bounce, the physicality of this story keeps young readers busy.

The Bot Garage app gives fans of the book a chance to build their own collections of wonderfully wacky robot friends. From a wide selection of colorful bot heads, bodies, arms, legs, and silly accessories, kids can design and name a multitude of bots that come to life with animation and sound effects. Once the bots have been placed in one of ten cool places to play, they can be saved and emailed to friends directly from the app.

Robin Corey, Vice President  and Publisher of Robin Corey Books, said “As a longtime fan and publisher of pop-up books, I am thrilled that this app does exactly what it should—it effectively goes beyond the book’s content and enhances the format with a satisfying electronic experience. It’s addictive—and I’m not a kid!”

Kids will love coming up with new combinations, whether they recreate the kooky Kissing Bots or Giggle Wiggle Bots from the book, or invent a brand-new bot creation to share with friends. With so many nuts and bolts, and a little imagination, over 100,000 different bots can be assembled in the Bot Garage.

David A. Carteris the author of 75 pop-up books, including the bestselling Bugs in a Box® series that has sold 7 million copies.  He is also the creator of the magnificent pop-ups Horton Hears a Who Pop-Up!, Oh, the Places You'll Go Pop-up!, One Red Dot, and White Noise, a New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book in 2009. Noelle Carter is a Montessori school educator and the author of more than a dozen pop-up books, some of which she collaborated on with husband David. The Carters live in Auburn, California.
