DEDICATED TO HELPING BUILD CREATIVE, CURIOUS, AND SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS KIDS, MINNEAPOLIS PUBLISHER MIGHTY MEDIA PRESS ANNOUNCES THREE FINALISTS AND TWO WINNERS, INCLUDING ONE LOCAL AUTHOR.

Minneapolis, MN—The 26th Annual Midwest Book Awards recognizes two winners from Mighty Media Press: Monster Needs Your Vote, by Paul Czajak and illustrated by Wendy Grieb, in the Children’s Picture Books category and The Kids’ Book of Simple Machines, by Minneapolis author Kelly Doudna, in the Children’s Nonfiction category. In addition to the winners, If an Elephant Went to School, by Ellen Fischer and illustrated by Laura Wood, was recognized as a finalist in the category of Children’s Picture Books.

Winners were announced at the Midwest Book Awards Gala on May 13,
2016, at the Olson Campus Center at Luther Seminary in St. Paul,
Minnesota.

The competition, sponsored by the Midwest Independent Publishing Association, is judged by experts from all aspects of the book world, including publishers, writers, editors, librarians, teachers, and book designers. The judges select award winners and finalists based on overall excellence.

“Mighty Media really cares about kids and their futures, as reflected in our tagline: Mighty kids.Mighty minds. Mighty future. Be Mighty!” says publisher Nancy Tuminelly. “Our goal is to stimulate young brains to find their passions, learn and think independently, and grow up to be engaged, active, caring teens and adults.”

Mighty Media Press produces content that inspires kids to build better futures—whether by becoming civically engaged, curiously investigating new worlds, or creatively experimenting with engineering activities. To this end, the publisher has already partnered with nonprofit organization Kids Voting Minneapolis and nationally with Kids Voting USA around award-winner Monster Needs Your Vote to produce activities and events that inspire political participation and leadership in kids.
