Kate DiCamillo Wins ‘Voice of the Heartland’ Award
In their statement about the win, the judges said that Kate “has demonstrated a passion for writing and a commitment to literature since she moved to Minneapolis in the 1990s. Thirty years old, she worked at the book distributor the Bookmen picking children’s books. When a Candlewick rep visited the warehouse, DiCamillo and the rep talked about her writing, the rep sent her manuscript to an editor, and the rest is history.” (Midwest Booksellers.org)
