Inspiring Summer Reading

Rather than offer rewards such as money or screen time, which dilute the reading experience, Willingham advises parents to provide plenty of books and opportunities for reading time. Ultimately, a child who identifies as a reader will find the joy in reading:  

Talking about kids’ reading attitudes is important, but it’s only part of the picture. I think self-concept really matters. You have to see yourself as a reader. (NPR)
