New York, NY- April 25, 2014—Qlovi, the classroom eBook and literacy company, partners with leading organizations and companies to bring free virtual readings around the country. Partners First Book, Univision Communications Inc, The Hispanic Heritage Foundation, LNESC of LULAC National Education Service Centers, and Latinas for Latino Lit (L4LL) all come together around the shared passion for El día de los niños, El día de los libros (Children’s Day, Book Day). The nationwide celebration goes year-round emphasizing the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and culminates on April 30th with a variety of engaging events, including this year’s virtual reading.

Readings will be conducted in English by bilingual authors and illustrators whose books contain extraordinarily engaging content with diverse cultural subject matter. Starting today, teachers, librarians, and parents are welcome to sign up for up to eight free virtual readings in three time zones. On Wednesday, April 30, participants will tune in starting at 9am and ending at 5pm (EDT) using the same URL: www.qlovi.com/día . Students and parents will also have the chance to submit questions and get answers from readers during the event.

The Qlovi + Authors (Q+A) Virtual Reading Series launched in December 2013 in collaboration with the Children’s Book Council Diversity Initiative, and has reaching over 80,000 students nationwide to date. For participating authors and illustrators, it’s a chance to connect with students in a new way. “I had a wonderful time working with the Qlovi team,” said author Lisa Yee. “To be able to reach thousands of students, and answer their questions live was a thrill. This is a new era of communication.”

The event will also feature follow-up engagement opportunities from partners, including Unvision Contigo’s Pequeños y Valiosos pledge which asks parents to dedicate at least fifteen minutes per day to uninterrupted interaction with their young children, preparing those children for future academic success. L4LL’s Dia Blog Hop, and First Book’s free and discounted books and reading resources for schools and programs serving kids in need will also be featured. Said Roxana Barillas, Director of Hispanic Engagement at First Book, “We couldn’t be more excited to help bring these fantastic readers together to celebrate El día de los niños, El día de los libros. The goal is to give young readers a unique opportunity to come together to celebrate children and stories that will excite them all.”  To learn more and sign up, please visit: www.qlovi.com/día
