ACLU and Bear Pond Books Team Up to Sponsor Banned Books Week Read-Aloud in Vermont
October 4, 2012
The ACLU and Bear Pond Books are sponsoring a read-aloud in Vermont to celebrate Banned Books Week. National Ambassador Emeritus Katherine Paterson will band together with author David Budbill and storyteller Willem Lange to perform readings of censored works at this event.
The event will take place on October 4th starting 7 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church in Montpelier, VT. No details have been revealed as to which works they will be reading from. Over the past 20 years, Paterson's beloved work, Bridge to Terabithia, has been named a banned book. Back in 2003, some of the reasons cited for this censorship include "occult/Satanism" and "offensive language."
