Children’s Book Week 2008 Official NYC Events
Saturday, May 10: Kick-Off Event, Bryant Park, 12-5 pm
- Authors, illustrators and iconic children's book characters will celebrate reading with children at the Bryant Park Reading Room from 12-5 pm with readings and signings
- The Bryant Park Reading Room will be dedicated to Children's Book Week all week long, with 1000 children's books from CBC member publishers available for children to peruse
- Program presented by the CBC and the Bryant Park Corporation
Monday, May 12: Commerce Bank Breakfast, Commerce Bank at 42nd and Madison, 8:30-10 am
- Leonard Marcus, preeminent children's literature historian and author of Minders of Make-Believe will speak about the history of children's books
- Children's Choice Book Awards nominees receive certificates
- Program presented by the CBC and Commerce Bank
Tuesday, May 13: Children's Choice Book Awards gala, 6-9:30 pm. See invitation
- Hosted by Jon Scieszka
- Cocktails and dinner reception begin at 6 pm at the Times Center in Manhattan
- Attendees move into the theater at 7:10 pm for the awards presentation, honoring 3 books, 1 author and 1 illustrator and presenting an Impact Award to Al Roker to recognize the impact of Al's Book Club for Kids (theater program to begin promptly at 7:30 and take no more than one hour)
- Delicious dessert reception to follow awards program
- Tickets cost $300 each, sponsorship packages available - contact the CBC at 212-966-1990. All proceeds go toward Children's Book Week programming.
Thursday, May 15: NBA Store 4-6 pm
- Basketball-themed author readings and signings at the NBA Store on 5th Avenue
- Program presented by the CBC, the WNBA, the New York Liberty and the NBA Store.
Saturday, May 17: Grand Central Terminal, 12 pm
- Children's version of the Big Read, featuring a scavenger hunt through Grand Central Terminal, inspired by The Malted Falcon by Bruce Hale, with a read-along by Jon Scieszka
- Program presented by the CBC in partnership with the Mercantile Library for Fiction and the Grand Central Partnership

Sunday, May 18: Closing Children's Book Week at the Bryant Park Reading Room . 12-3 pm
- After a week of celebrating children's books, Writopia Lab's writers (ages 9-17) will read from their own award-winning short stories, memoirs, poetry, and scripts! Reviewers of previous readings have described their writings as "howlingly, snortingly funny, well-crafted and smart." Writopia Lab is a not-for-profit organization located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan that seeks to foster a diverse community of empowered young writers.
