Many states and organizations sponsor children's choice book award programs. This can be done on a small scale in your classroom or school. However, unlike these larger programs, there is no need for participating students to read specific books. These awards will be based upon their own personal reading and any books they're read for school. You should encourage kids to read as many books as they can in preparation for the program.
A suggested schedule for Children's Book Week:
On Monday morning, hand out a form for the awards leaving a space for students to fill in their choices or provide check boxes for the already determined master list. Collect and tally the votes.

Favorite Character
Funniest Character
Bravest Character
Funniest Moment
Saddest Moment
Most Unbelievable Ending
On Tuesday morning, name the top three winners in each category finalists.
During the week, students can lobby each other to vote for their favorites among the finalists. You could set aside time each afternoon for formal speeches.
On Thursday afternoon, hand out a ballot featuring each award, asking students to circle or check their favorite finalist. Collect and tally the votes.
On Friday afternoon, Announce the winners during a Children's Book Week party.
Have the winners announced in the school paper and during the next school-wide announcement.
Be sure to send the local paper a press release about your winners.
