Registration for the 2014 New York Library Association NYLA Spring Conference is Open!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Early birds can now register for the 2014 New York Library Association (NYLA) Youth Services Section (YSS) Spring Conference scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2014 at the Crowne Plaza White Plains – Downtown, 66 Hale Avenue, White Plains, NY 10601. Early bird registration must be postmarked by Friday, February 21, 2014. Standard registration then continues until Friday, March 21, 2014.

The theme for the conference is “Everything is New Every Minute: Full of Opportunities.” For detailed information on the conference, including a complete listing of the workshops and schedule, as well as the registration information and form, please visit this link, click on Events, then click on “Everything is New Every Minute: Full of Opportunities.”

The conference planning committee has observed that library professionals today find themselves increasingly challenged by the rapid changes that are occurring in the communities they serve. The vision for this conference is to recognize the changes that are impacting the work of youth library professionals and to explore our response to the unique opportunities presented by those changes.

Roger Sutton, Editor in Chief of the Horn Book, Inc. will kick off the event with the keynote presentation, “The Future of Publishing for Young People.” Steve Sheinkin, author of the 2013 Newbery Honor title, “Bomb: The Race to Build—and steal—the World’s Most Dangerous Weapon,” will deliver the luncheon presentation, “Real Stuff Makes Great Reading.” Thirteen exciting workshops throughout the day will address an extensive set of changes producing opportunities for youth library professionals. You will also want to meet, greet, and have books signed by local children’s and YA authors and illustrators in the Author/Illustrator Garden at the conference. Commercial vendors will be on hand to display and offer information about the latest resources available.

The early bird conference fee is $115 for members of NYLA youth sections (YSS and SSL) and students in MLS programs. The non-member fee is $150 for early bird registration. Standard fees apply for registration postmarked after February 21, 2014: members – $125 and non-members – $160.

Plan to come the day before the conference. The Westchester Library System Multi-language Book Fair, a free event, is scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Avenue, White Plains, NY 10601. Later on Thursday, April 3, join fellow conference attendees at the Dinner For All In Honor of Past YSS Presidents @ The Edge, the new teen space at The White Plains Public Library. The cost of the dinner is $37 per person and can be included with your registration.
