The Rise of the New Adult Genre

December 9, 2016

The emergence of the New Adult genre has created more options for readers transitioning between childhood and adulthood.

The NA genre has gained momentum since it debuted in 2013, and, though similar to the Young Adult genre, books under this genre explore stories of teens after graduation, in college, and beyond.

Just as there isn’t a firm line between childhood and adulthood, the differences and appeal of young adult fiction vs. books published for adult audiences exist on more of a continuum, in my view, especially as many adults continue to be avid readers of YA. (School Library Journal)
