Associate Manager of Publicity at Random House Children\'s Publishing

Random House Children's Books seeks an experienced public relations person to join its Publicity Department as Associate Manager. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of four years experience in Publicity at a major publishing house and has established media contacts in the industry.

The Editor:

  • Strategize and execute PR campaigns for high-profile authors and brands; develop targeted media plans, and pitch national and regional TV, print, radio and online media.
  • Generate creative story / feature ideas to secure coverage for books / authors / brands.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with high-profile authors.
  • Build on and maintain strong relationships with key consumer and trade media, and develop new contacts for the department.
  • Keep an eye on current media coverage / stories, and seek opportunities to tie-into them and secure coverage as they develop.
  • Assist with managing of department operations and overall planning strategy for book festivals, national author tours, presence at industry conventions and conferences.
  • Supervisory responsibility for Assistant / Associate Publicist level. Advice on campaign plans, PR strategy and developing author relationships.
  • Meet with key members of the media to discuss coverage opportunities.
  • Represent Publicity Department at book conventions and publishing events, on the road for author tours, in bookseller meetings and to the media.
  • Coordinate author appearances including national book tours, book festivals, conferences, trade shows and local events.
  • Write press releases, targeted pitch letters, author bios, and additional materials to support pitching.
  • Communicate inofrmation across the division to publishers / editorial, sales and marketing.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of publicity experience; book publicity a plus.
  • Knowledge of marketplace, media and competition.
  • Excellent media relations skills.
  • Possesses a strong marketplace awareness and a pulse on what's happening in the media. Proven ability to develop story ideas accordingly.
  • Strong pitching technique and proven ability to secure significant coverage in national media.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and presentation skills).
  • Social Media experience.
  • Keep an eye for detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, Cision; SAP a plus.
