FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SOMERVILLE, MA — Popular cartoonist and author Stephan Pastis continues to strike comic gold with his best-selling middle-grade books starring the most inept kid detective in children’s literature history. Timmy Failure, aka Sherlock Hopeless, persists in making every mystery even more mysterious as his misadventures resume in the sixth installment of the series. Liz Bicknell, executive editorial director and associate publisher at Candlewick Press, has acquired North American rights to Timmy Failure: The Cat Stole My Pants, to be published in April 2017 in a deal brokered by Daniel Lazar of Writers House. Carter Hasegawa of Candlewick Press will edit, with art direction by Ann Stott.
The new story takes Timmy to Key West, Florida, ostensibly for the honeymoon of his mother and Doorman Dave — if they even got married, which Timmy doubts. Unfortunately for Timmy, crime doesn’t take a vacation. And because Total has fled to Cuba seeking political asylum, Timmy must rely on a new partner for help: Doorman Dave’s nephew Emilio. Meanwhile, a surprise newcomer shows up in Timmy’s life and, as if things weren’t hectic enough, Timmy’s pants have been stolen by a six-toed cat.
“Since day one of this series, I’ve always been in awe of Stephan’s ability to make us laugh so hard and care so much about this clueless detective. Yes, Timmy masks his vulnerability in insults and declarations, but the people surrounding Timmy are supportive and full of love. And luckily for us, it’s a hilarious combination. I don’t know how Stephan does it, but his sixth book in this series is just as funny, just as heartwarming, as the first,” said associate editor Carter Hasegawa.
Rights for the series have been sold in thirty-two countries to date with a total of 1.4 million copies in print worldwide.
