Moonbeam Children’s Book Award to NH Illustrator
Amherst, NH (November 1, 2011)– Apprentice Shop Books is proud to announce that Lisa Greenleaf (Nashua, NH) received a Bronze Medal for Best Illustrator from the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards for her new book, John Greenleaf Whittier’s The Barefoot Boy. Released in September 2011, the book is Ms. Greenleaf’s first full length children’s book and contains 26 vivid images to accompany Whittier’s famous poem. The enchanting illustrations contain imagery from Whittier’s birthplace in Haverhill, MA and take readers back to a bygone era.
Ms. Greenleaf hopes her illustrations inspire readers of all ages, “I have a passion for inspiring people. In this case, I hope to inspire people, especially children, through my drawings and my explanation of the journey to complete this book. I want children to realize they can aspire to great things by first examining who they truly are and by not letting others decide for them. You have to believe in yourself first before others will believe in you.”
The Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards are dedicated to the notion that reading to and with your children will inspire them to become lifelong readers and learners. That mission aligns perfectly with Ms. Greenleaf’s intention for the book as she commented, “My father used to recite this poem to me and my sisters when we were young. I hope many people remember the poem from their youth. They can share the book and the poem with their children and grandchildren. I am thrilled to offer such a wonderful bonding opportunity for families and bring great poetry and classic illustrations to children.”
Bringing increased recognition to exemplary children's books and their authors, illustrators, and publishers, the Moonbeam Children’s Book Award winners represent the best books published for children and young adults. Judging panels of librarians, teachers, students, and book reviewers chose medalists in 38 categories, and winning books came from a diverse group of long-established publishers, small presses, associations, and self-publishers.
Published by Apprentice Shop Books of Amherst, NH, John Greenleaf Whittier’s The Barefoot Boy is the first book of the Illustrated Classic American Poets Series. More information and the full catalog of books can be found at www.apprenticeshopbooks.com.
