"Mike Mullin's ASHFALL glows and throbs with everyday life and the business of survival in a dystopic future, after an unthinkable disaster."

ASHFALL

by Mike Mullin

Many visitors to Yellowstone National Park don’t realize that the boiling hot springs and spraying

geysers are caused by an underlying supervolcano, so large that the caldera can only be seen by

plane or satellite. The one thing all geologists agree on: It will erupt again.

With the recent eruption of the Grimsvötn Volcano in Iceland, fears have once again been heightened, leaving everyone to wonder what can happen after such a natural disaster has occurred; ASHFALL paints a fascinating and chilling picture of one scenario…

For Alex, being left alone for the weekend means having the freedom to play computer games and hang out with his friends without hassle from his mother. Then the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts, plunging his hometown into a nightmare of darkness, ash, and violence. Alex begins a harrowing trek to search for his family and finds help in Darla, a teen he meets along the way. Together they must find the strength and skills to survive and outlast an epic disaster.

Advance praise for ASHFALL has been tremendously positive:

Dave Richardson, The Blue Marble Children’s Bookstore, International Reading Association’s Reading Today book reviewer, and Cincinnati State College children’s literature professor:

“Mike Mullin catapults readers into a surreal, cataclysmic world that will hold them until the last page. If you aren’t exhausted by the end of the first thirty pages, you may want to check your pulse. ASHFALL is the perfect book for reluctant teen readers who ‘can never find anything good to read.'”

Michael Grant, New York Times bestselling author of Gone, Lies, Hunger, and Plague:

"The scariest apocalypse is one that could really happen. Mike Mullin's ASHFALL is way too real for comfort: you'll live the panic and despair and know that all of this could really happen. It will be a long time before you get the taste of volcanic ash out of your mouth. This isn't fantasy, this is real."

Carl Harvey, School Librarian, Noblesville, Indiana:

“You won't want to put this fast-paced book down. Teen readers will connect with the characters and wonder - could they do what Alex has to do to survive? ASHFALL has it all—adventure, science, and even a little romance—woven together to tell a most compelling story!”

Mike Mullin’s career path has been quite diverse, including Congressional Page, brand management, and a variety of jobs in his mother’s business, Kids Ink Children’s Bookstore. Since elementary school, Mike has been writing nonstop; ASHFALL is his first published novel. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife and her three cats.
