Abby Levine to Retire
After 28 Years with Albert Whitman & Company
After 28 years of editorial service to Albert Whitman & Company, Abby Levine will retire effective June 17.
After a brief career editing for Oxford University Press and other academic publishers, Levine joined the company in 1983.
Albert Whitman & Company President John Quattrocchi said of Levine, “Abby has edited some of the company’s most successful books and has been instrumental in the development of our new board book line and our relationship with the PJ Library. We wish her well, and she will be missed.”
Among the bestselling titles edited by Levine are Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio by Peg Kehret; The Seven Chinese Sisters by Kathy Tucker, illustrated by Grace Lin; the Mr. Tanen series by Maryann Cocca-Leffler; and the Miss Fox series by Eileen Spinelli, illustrated by Anne Kennedy.
Levine also successfully coached and nurtured many of Albert Whitman & Company’s best-selling authors and illustrators, including Peg Kehret, Eileen Spinelli, Grace Lin, Kathy Tucker, Maryann Cocca-Leffler, Linda Glaser, Colin Bootman, Joan Holub, Catherine Stier, Nadine Bernard Westcott, Margaret Read MacDonald, Anne Kennedy, Lynn Munsinger, Cornelia Maude Spelman, Kathy Parkinson, Rebecca O’Connell, Dori Hillestad Butler, Teresa Bateman, and Jackie Urbanovic.
A prolific author, she has written twelve picture books, among them Ollie Knows Everything and You Push, I Ride. Levine will continue to work on select projects for the company.
