Bibliophiles Around the World Return to Slow Reading

Some enthusiasts claim that slow readers should exclusively use print books. Others do not feel that such a limitation is necessary. For those who choose to use a mobile device, it is recommended that airplane mode be switched on so that emails and social media notifications are blocked off for the duration of reading time.

“Slow reading means a return to a continuous, linear pattern, in a quiet environment free of distractions. Advocates recommend setting aside at least 30 to 45 minutes in a comfortable chair far from cellphones and computers. Some suggest scheduling time like an exercise session. Many recommend taking occasional notes to deepen engagement with the text.” (The Wall Street Journal)
