School Library Journal talks with award-winning author Jason Reynolds about writing for middle grade readers.
Reynolds was recently awarded the Coretta Scott King–John Steptoe Award for New Talent, and his critically acclaimed middle grade books, As Brave as You and Ghost, are currently topping many mock Newbery lists. In the interview, Reynolds talks about creating authentic and compelling characters and stories for his readers.
It does us no good to dance around the hard stuff. In a time where information is at the fingertips of every human, big or small, young or old, it seems a bit silly to assume they don’t already know what’s going on.
