CBC Diversity Initiative
The CBC Diversity initiative advocates for an inclusive and representative children’s book publishing industry. As a part of this effort, we host frequent events, open to CBC members.
- CBC Diversity Dialogues bring together intimate groups of children’s book publishing staffers to speak candidly about diversity and problem-solve collaboratively in a supportive environment. Topics addressed at past events include: the power of reviewers, searching out authentic sources to establish authors’ credibility, and diversity in book covers.
- CBC Diversity Panels provide opportunities for various voices in the industry to communicate the challenges they face in selling and promoting diverse books, and to work together to develop solutions to these problems.
- CBC Diversity Career Fairs help to open up the publishing industry to talented job-seekers from diverse backgrounds. For example, the Hire Big 10 Plus Virtual Career Fair allows us to connect with over 3,400 students and alumni from 17 universities. With the help of volunteers from our member publishers, we offer sessions for students to drop in, chat, and pose their industry questions. Experts provide information about career opportunities, and guidance in the application process.
